Scoop: GM Begins Testing Mule for New Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva SUVs

As modern as it may still look on the outside, after seven years in the market, the five-seater Opel / Vauxhall Antara compact SUV (sold as the Saturn Vue Mk2 before GM shut down the brand in 2010) is showing its age and is in need for a replacement.

The same applies to its more conservatively styled seven-seater Chevrolet sibling, the Captiva, and of course, Holden Australia's versions of the two models, the Captiva 5 (Antara) and 7.

New Cadillac ELR Coupe Gets Paddle Shifters to Control Regenerative System [w/Video]

Cadillac today announced that the 2014 ELR battery-powered coupe will feature paddle shifters, but not the kind you get on a conventional car. Cadillac says the ELR’s paddle shifters have a different function than what we’re accustomed to and more specifically, they “enable the driver to temporarily regenerate energy and store it as electricity in the battery pack for later use.”

This new system is called "Regen on Demand" and will be an exclusive feature of the ELR, the brand’s first electric vehicle with extended range capability thanks to the petrol-powered 1.4-liter gasoline engine that acts as a generator.

GM Reaffirms Commitment to Opel, will Invest €4 Billion, Present 23 New Cars Through 2016

GM has announced a massive investment program for its ailing European subsidiary Opel over the next four years, worth €4 billion ($5.23 billion). The GM Board of Directors announced the decision today at a meeting in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the home of Opel.

A large part of the announced investments will go into new Opel/Vauxhall models, as GM’s European arm wants to introduce 23 new models including the upcoming Cascada cabriolet and 13 new powertrains through 2016.

GM Reunites with Facebook Ads After an 11-Month Break

In May last year, General Motors decided to pull the plug on its Facebook advertisements because the second-largest U.S. marketer determined that their paid ads on the website had little impact on consumers. It's worth noting that it did so only three days before the world's most popular social network made its first public offering.

Now, just shy of a year later, General Motors confirmed to Adage that it's returning to Facebook ads, albeit, without really explaining why. The only significant change that seems to have taken place during this period is the July, 2012 dismissal of former CMO Joel Ewanick, who was said to have been "instrumental" in GM's decision to abandon Facebook advertisements.

2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition Convertible to Debut at the Indy 500

The “Festival car” of this year’s Indianapolis 500 race will be the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels Edition convertible, a limited edition model that will add to the similar coupe version revealed late last year.

A total of 33 cars will be driven by the directors of the 500 Festival, who received their Indianapolis 500 Chevrolet Camaros in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the “Brickyard.”
